Google – Stop Displaying Ads on Right Side of SERP

Google – Stop Displaying Ads on Right Side of SERP

Google is announcing a dramatic change by removing ads from the right side of the SERP. Only shows the ads only at the top or at the bottom of the page. The company announces that an additional ad can be shown above the results of the search which has been called “highly commercial queries”.

This discussion takes us back to the year 2010 when a test had begun. Google has confirmed that the change is now rolling out to all searches in all languages worldwide. It has been said the ads will not be displayed on the right side of desktop. But there are two exceptions: First, Product Listing Ad (PLA) boxes and second, ads in knowledge panel. Product Listing Ad boxes are those which display either above or to the right of the search results. Another source from Google informs that PLA boxes are going to be the only time ads which will be shown continuously on the right side of the desktop. Finally Google has confirmed that the prior information is correct. There will be two exceptions as mentioned above.

The additional fourth ad will be meant for only highly commercial queries. This addition of fourth ad may involve searches such as “hostels in New York City”, “car insurance” etc.

This removal of right side ads makes desktop searches look like mobile search results. On mobile search result, Google shows two or three ads at the top of the search results.

Google has stated in a statement to “The Verge” that they were working on testing this layout for some time. The company has also claimed that their new layout will provide more relevant results to the people who are searching on Google and it will also better the performance of the advertisers.
